Text

Last year, as part of the gallery’s one-work exhibition format, Geisler showed one large abstract painting at the gallery’s previous location at Pariser Strasse in Charlottenburg (contextualized by one other smaller work). In contrast to the relative emptiness and discreteness of last year’s presentation, the gallery space at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz has now been filled with an exuberant number of new pieces to produce a rather immersive impression to the viewer. In the light of the artist’s oeuvre, ‘Collapse’ has to be seen as a painting exhibition. ‘Collapse’ features a new set of works questioning the idea of colour and space. Geisler’s work is taking two-dimensional painting into (sculptural, often architectural) space, making it possible to walk around the work, looking at the changing forms from different angles. In ‘Collapse’, the medium of expanded painting is made of wall objects, consisting of spray paint on modified pop-up tents. Max Geisler (b. 1990 in Frankfurt am Main) has studied with Gunter Reski at HfG Offenbach and Erwin Bohatsch at Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, and currently lives in Offenbach, Germany. Among his recent solo and group shows are Kunstverein Familie Montez, Frankfurt, DE (2021, upcoming); Café Futurama at Magma Maria, Offenbach, DE (2021); Oh hell yea, humanity at Kunsternes Hus, Oslo, NO (2020); Kunst am Bau, organized by Gunter Reski, Hans-Jürgen Hafner and Marcus Weber, Rummelsburg, Berlin, DE (2020); Lies About, curated by Kunsthalleperleberg at Gussglashalle, Berlin, DE (2019); And this is us, curated by Franziska Nori and Dennis Brzek at Frankfurter Kunstverein, Frankfurt, DE (2019). Opening hours: Wednesday to Friday 13:00—19:00, Saturday 11:00—16:00, and by appointment. An exhibition catalog including an essay by Hans-Jürgen Hafner will be published during the course of the show.
