IN FLUX

The exhibition IN FLUX by Maxine Weiss and Ömer Kaplan is a continuation of their last collaboration IN LIMBO (2020) at Kösk Munich. The artists take up the instability of time to move from a state of suspense to one of constant change. Over the duration of the exhibition they install and expand their works. In their processual approach they are in close exchange and develop thoughts together. Through the continuous transition of IN FLUX they focus on the unfolding of artistic ideas, which are also influenced by the surrounding space. This creates a mesh of works in which the parallels of both positions become clear and authorship cannot always be defined. The space becomes a field of experimentation in which new possibilities arise. In terms of content as well as form, both artists tie in with the sense of an unchanging discontinuity. In her work, Maxine Weiss questions the boundaries of artificiality, naturalness and physicality, blurring them and redrawing them sculpturally. Her handling of materials is highly experimental, a large part of her process-based works consist of things encountered by chance - plant seeds or dust, for example. Accompanied by a fleeting aesthetic, her works then often appear familiar and yet strangely alien. In his sculptural and installation works, Ömer Kaplan explores relations of tension of the most diverse kinds and forms. In doing so, he explores or rather exhausts material as well as his own limits by exposing wood, steel and plastic to his physical forces. His expansive sculptures are thereby under strong tension, illustrating the forces acting on the individual components and at the same time the sensitive balance in which they stand in relation to each other.
